Amy is a cellist, teacher, nature lover, and avid reader. Born in Boulder, Colorado and raised in Bozeman, Montana, she learned to love the mountains and the outdoors from a young age. She loves dirt trails, sunsets, Montana skies full of stars, the sound of crunchy snow under foot, and the smell of a homecooked meal.
Amy holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Brigham Young University Idaho and has extensive orchestral, chamber, and Baroque period performance experience. She studied cello with Dr. Robert Tueller, director of cello studies at BYUI and principal cellist with the Idaho Falls Symphony, and previously with Chandra Lind, principal cellist of the Bozeman Symphony. Before moving to Minnesota, she worked as adjunct faculty in the Brigham Young University Idaho Department of Music teaching cello, conducting the university string orchestra, and teaching music education classes. She also played in the Idaho Falls Symphony cello section for two full seasons. As an undergraduate, she performed with the BYUI Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta, and Baroque Ensemble. Amy has performed on stage with renowned artists Joshua Roman, Time For Three, Brian Stokes Mitchell, William Hagen, Jenny Oaks Baker, Frederica von Stade, and Holly Mulcahy. She has also performed various times alongside the Idaho chamber choir, Anam Cara.
As executive Director and founder of the Rocky Mountain Cello Festival, she dedicates her time to providing musical opportunities to cellists of all ages and ability levels. Amy is a passionate teacher, and has taught cello lessons for ten years in Montana and Idaho. She is a firm believer and advocate for music and the arts in communities and schools and lives by the philosophy that music not only brings joy, but also provides opportunities to share culture, build connections between individuals, and find peace in trying times. Her goal as a musician is to benefit and improve the lives of her students and clients through the services she provides.
Amy currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband and studies as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota where she's pursuing a master's in Cello Performance under the tutelage of Silver Ainomae, associate principal cellist of the Minnesota Orchestra. She can be seen with her cello in the pre-game showtime sequences for the Vikings football home games.
